Types of refrigerants

For commercial and industrial refrigeration replacement of (CFC) Genetron® 502 and (HCFC) Genetron® 22 are the industry’s principle focus. Hence, Honeywell’s long-term solutions for low and medium temperature applications are Genetron® 507 and Genetron® 404A, both non-ozone depleting refrigerants. Genetron® 507 is an azeotropic blend of HFC-125 and HFC-143a. Likewise, Genetron® 404A is a blend of HFC-125, HFC-143a and HFC 134a. Both options can give a high level of efficiency with performance and characteristics similar to Genetron® 502, and can use as replacements in retrofits as well as in new equipment.

R404A Refrigerant - summary

Since, R404A is a HFC blend, used as a replacement for R502 and R22 in low and medium temperature refrigeration applications. Although it is a popular refrigerant, with a GWP above 2500, the use of R404A is now prohibited in new equipment. So restricted in pre-existing equipment also. Reclaimed R404A still permitting until 2030 for servicing equipment already running on R404A and is an option for those with systems above 40T CO2 Equivalent (approximately 10kgs of R404A).

R404A Refrigerant - Honeywell Genetron® 404A

>R-410A Refrigerant (Genetron® AZ-20) is widely accepted to replace R-22 in air conditioning and refrigeration applications. For new equipment — not for retrofits. Genetron® AZ-20® (an azeotropic mixture of HFC-32/HFC-125, assigned R-410A by ASHRAE), has been developed by Honeywell to serve as a long-term, non-ozone-depleting replacement for HCFC-22 in a variety of new-equipment applications. Genetron AZ-20 has a significantly higher capacity and pressure than HCFC-22. It has an intrinsically low toxicity. Because it behaves like an azeotrope, Genetron AZ-20 is easy to service in the field. In addition, Genetron AZ-20 has patent and has recognized by Underwriters’ Laboratory as practically non-flammable

Genetron® 404A (HFC-404A) is a non-ozone depleting compound designed to serve as a long-term alternative to Genetron® 502 (CFC-502) and Genetron® 22 (HCFC-22) in low- and medium-temperature commercial refrigeration applications. Genetron® 404A is a substitute for Genetron® 502, but it is not a drop-in replacement. Mineral oils and alkylbenzene lubricants use traditionally with Genetron® 502, are immiscible with Genetron® 404A.
